Ready to Refresh Your Home in 2023?

Here are some trendy tips that just might have you up-cycling and adding splashes of color!

One of my favorite things to do when refreshing our home is to walk around and repurpose items.  It’s almost like this internal challenge I have with myself…that I actually never realized I did until right this very moment…haha.  Let me elaborate.  Whether it’s because I’m budget-conscious (thanks Dad) or because I get bored of the way things look, I love to move furniture and décor around the house.  The spaces feel fresh and like my old stuff has a new life when simply moved to a different place in our home. That is why I loved finding this quote from Spruce Magazine!

“We’re making room for pieces that stand out—even if doing so makes for a less traditional layout.”

Yes!  I knew that I was ahead of the trend when placing a small dining table in our living room!  Hahaha!  Friends who have been to our home know that they’ve oddly enough enjoyed sitting at a kitchen table in our living room.  I received a beautiful table from a special friend in California.  We didn’t “need” a new kitchen table…or did we?  Yes, we did…but in our living room.  By day, our children are allowed to have their snacks there and by night the grownups have been known to enjoy chatting and sipping in this non-traditional set-up.  It just works.

Just like most trends, the pendulum usually swings back-and-forth.  In a Houzz Magazine article, designers predict natural woods, even dark and traditional finishes, will be making their come back.  Phew, am I glad that I kept some of those traditional pieces!  And one of my most favorite design strategies made the trendy list too- Layers of textures, artistically demonstrated below!

All-in-all, my 2023 home trend research left me feeling excited by the fun burst of colors, encouraged by the mixed-use of furniture, and a bit nostalgic, with a nod to the past blended with modern touches.  Sounds like a little bit of something for everyone!  Cheers to 2023!
