Charleston Cheer this Holiday Season

Anyone else in the Holiday Spirit a little sooner than usual this year?  It all started with a sweet 7-year-old’s excitement to get the decorations out early and who could resist?   At our house we seem to have collected lights of all colors, kitschy decorations that looked great during their original time and place and now usually remain in the Christmas storage bins and rarely make an appearance in our home anymore.  Does anyone else keep old decorations for sentimental reasons, but they just don’t go with the décor anymore?  Well, not this year!  Anything goes at the Dumin’s house and I am LOVING it.  The joy of a marshmallow-loving child can really lift your spirits and I am fully plugging into my little guy’s enthusiasm!

As I print out the 24 holiday happenings for our family Advent Calendar, I wanted to share five of the most festive events planned around town that you might want to enjoy as well.

#5 LET IT SNOW, Charleston Place

Yes, it will be snowing at Charleston Place again this season.  Caroling and sweet treats will go hand-in-hand with the snowfall and cheerful giggles of snowflakes landing on noses and eyelashes Click here to reserve your complimentary visit!

#4 CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL, Boone Hall Farms & Gardens

After a successful Fall Pumpkin Patch experience, the expectations are high for the fun that will be had this December!  For years, Boone Hall has invited families to pick their prized tree and haul it off to its destination, but this year we can plan on some added events and activities.  Click here to read more about what they’ve got in store this season!

#3 THE NUTCRACKER, Sottile Theatre

Dressing up and going downtown to see The Nutcracker is sure to put anyone in tip-top holiday spirit!  Watching this whimsical story, played out with the Christmassy sounds and emotions of its performers will be heartwarming to watch through a 7-year-old’s eyes.  Click here for ticket information!

#2 SKATE THE STADIUM, Credit One Stadium

Ice Skating on Daniel Island sounds like a dream to me this holiday season!  The vibe this summer was hot with amazing performances.  Let’s see how Credit One does with a deep freeze.  Something tells me that Daniel Island will do it right!  Click the link for more skating DI info.

#1 HOLIDAY FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, James Island County Park

The Festival of Lights has been a tradition from our first southern season back in 2001.  The predictable displays, mixed with the slight variations of enhancements each year, makes for a hit with my family (adults, teenagers and 7-year-olds alike)!  James Island does it best when it comes to admission too.  Pile in the car for one admission price and à la carte the activities that suit your family.  Click here for more detailed information!
